In this study, a simple method was used to prepare lactose crosslinked gelatin-silver nanocomposite hydrogels with potent antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus, which have potential applications as wound dressing materials.
A simple one-step method was used to prepare lactose crosslinked gelatin-silver nanocomposite (LGAg) hydro-gels by Schiff base bonding for wound dressing applications. The developed LGAg nanocomposite hydrogels were characterized by FTIR, XRD, UV-spectroscopy, and SEM to confirm hydrogel structure, morphology, and silver nanoparticle formation, and displayed potent antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus. Our results show the hydrogel nanocomposites produced have potential applications as wound dressing materials.
