Warning Models for Landslide and Channelized Debris Flow under Climate Change Conditions in Taiwan

Ho-Wen Chen et al.

Summary: Climate change has influenced the climate of Taiwan, causing urban areas to experience a temperature increase and mountain watersheds to receive less rainfall. This study found that typhoon-induced rains caused fewer landslides compared to non-typhoon climate events. The rainfall characteristics associated with landslide initiation were identified, and warning models for landslides were proposed based on cumulative rainfall-duration and rainfall intensity-duration plots.

Modeling the Spatial Distribution of Debris Flows and Analysis of the Controlling Factors: A Machine Learning Approach

Yan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study in the Bailong River Basin in central China revealed that lithology is the most important factor controlling debris flows, followed by landslide density and factors affecting slope stability, with the average annual frequency of daily rainfall > 20 mm being the most important triggering factor. Forest area and vegetation cover are also important controlling factors and should be considered as an important component of mitigation measures.

Summary: The use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) has significantly improved the characterization and monitoring of landslides in the past decade. RPAS is particularly effective in studying areas prone to geohazards, providing high-resolution orthophotos and digital surface models for better understanding and mapping of affected areas.

GIS-Based Landslide Susceptibility Mapping for Land Use Planning and Risk Assessment

Anna Roccati et al.

Summary: In this study, a GIS-based approach and AHP method were used to assess landslide susceptibility in the Portofino promontory based on over 110 years of landslide records. The findings suggest that areas at risk of future landslides are larger than identified in the official map, highlighting the importance of considering potential landslide hazards in land use planning and risk management strategies.
