Evaluation of response of dynamics change in bioaugmentation process in diesel-polluted seawater via high-throughput sequencing: Degradation characteristic, community structure, functional genes

Xue Jianliang et al.

Summary: Identification of microorganisms contributing to the whole microbial community is crucial. This study assessed dynamic changes in diesel-polluted seawater bioaugmentation process through simulation experiments, revealing recovery of community diversity and increased abundance of key families during bioaugmentation. Additionally, functional gene abundance significantly increased at both sites.

Analyses of community structure and role of immobilized bacteria system in the bioremediation process of diesel pollution seawater

Xinge Fu et al.

Summary: The immobilized bacteria system proved to play a significant role in the degradation of diesel in contaminated seawater, promoting the growth of oil-degrading bacteria by increasing nitrogen and phosphorus content. Moreover, minimal impact was observed on the microbial composition between treated and unpolluted seawater.

Vertical environmental gradient drives prokaryotic microbial community assembly and species coexistence in a stratified acid mine drainage lake

Zhixiang She et al.

Summary: Acid mine drainage (AMD) lakes exhibit tight geochemical gradients in the water column, resulting in significant changes in prokaryotic microbial community structure and increased diversity with depth. Heterogeneous selection is the main assembly process in the surface water, while stochastic processes become more important with depth.

Prophage Genomics and Ecology in the Family Rhodobacteraceae

Kathryn Forcone et al.

Summary: Roseobacters are globally abundant bacteria with critical roles in carbon and sulfur biogeochemical cycling. In this study, 173 new putative prophages were identified in 79 genomes of Rhodobacteraceae, with some encoding auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs) and others being gene transfer agents (GTAs). These prophages and GTAs are significant sources of genomic diversity in roseobacters and their distribution is significantly associated with latitude and temperature.
