The adsorption of cationic dye onto ACPMG@ZIF-8 core-shell, optimization using central composite response surface methodology (CCRSM)

Soheila Sharafinia et al.

Summary: The study aimed to find an effective adsorbent for the removal of cationic dyes like Safranin O, using ACPMG and ZIF-8 to form ACPMG@ZIF-8 core-shell. The adsorbents were characterized using various techniques, revealing essential changes in porosity after modification. Optimization of factors such as loading amount, initial dye concentration, contact time, and pH was conducted, achieving an equal adsorption capacity of 1250 mg/g. Adsorption followed Langmuir isotherm and quasi-second-order kinetic models, with the process being exothermic and spontaneous.

Congo red dye removal from aqueous environment by cationic surfactant modified-biomass derived carbon: Equilibrium, kinetic, and thermodynamic modeling, and forecasting via artificial neural network approach

Ceren Karaman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to optimize, model, and forecast the biosorption of Congo Red onto biomass-derived bio-sorbent. The waste-orange-peels were processed to fabricate biomass-derived carbon, which was activated and modified. The physicochemical properties of the biosorbents were explored, and the effects of various factors on biosorption capacity were investigated. The findings revealed that the optimized ANN model can predict the behavior of the biosorption process accurately.

Utilization of a double-cross-linked amino-functionalized three-dimensional graphene networks as a monolithic adsorbent for methyl orange removal: Equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics and artificial neural network modeling

Ceren Karaman et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-performance monolithic adsorbent was developed for the adsorption of methyl orange (MO). The amino-functionalized three-dimensional graphene networks (3D-GNf), fabricated via hydrothermal self-assembly and double-crosslinking strategies, exhibited the desired reusability and high capacity. Both batch-adsorption studies and an artificial neural network (ANN) approach were employed to evaluate the potential use of 3D-GNf as an adsorbent for MO removal. The experimental results were consistent with the ANN-based data, indicating the applicability of the suggested ANN model for predicting cationic dye adsorption.

Heterogeneous UV-Switchable Au nanoparticles decorated tungstophosphoric acid/TiO2 for efficient photocatalytic degradation process

Yasin Orooji et al.

Summary: In this study, gold nanoparticles were well-decorated on the surface of TiO2 using HPW as reducing intermediate linkers, thereby enhancing the photocatalytic performance compared to anatase TiO2 and HPW/TiO2. The photocatalytic rate of the prepared nanocomposites increased by 6.5-fold and 4.6-fold, and the reusability study confirmed their high photocatalytic activity after three cycles.

Influence of physical structures and chemical modification on VOCs adsorption characteristics of molecular sieves

Xiaoqiang Shen et al.

Summary: The physical structure and chemical modification of molecular sieves significantly affect the adsorption of VOCs, with pure silica molecular sieves exhibiting strong adsorption ability for polar adsorbates and decreasing adsorption ability for nonpolar adsorbates as molecular volume increases. The theoretical results were supported by experimental findings for toluene adsorption on MFI, BEA, and Y-type zeolites.

Multi-component ppm level adsorption of VOCs on the ZIF-8 and UiO-66 MOFs: Breakthrough analysis with selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry

Thomas Virdis et al.

Summary: Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have been extensively researched for applications like gas storage and heterogeneous catalysis, but the study of VOCs adsorption on MOFs is still behind compared to traditional adsorbent materials. This research used innovative methods to explore VOCs adsorption on MOFs at ultra-low concentrations, finding that UiO-66 exhibited higher uptake compared to ZIF-8 and both MOFs showed preference for hydrophobic molecules.
