Assessment of CO2 geological storage capacity based on adsorption isothermal experiments at various temperatures: A case study of No. 3 coal in the Qinshui Basin

Sijie Han et al.

Summary: This study investigated the CO2 adsorption capacity and geological storage potential of No. 3 anthracite coal in the Qinshui Basin. The results showed that CO2 adsorption capacity initially increased with depth, peaked at around 1000 m, and then decreased. Four assessment areas were established based on CO2 phase variation and coal thickness distribution. The effective CO2 geological storage capacity was found to be approximately 6.54 Gt.

Supercritical CO2 adsorption and desorption characteristics and pore structure controlling mechanism of tectonically deformed coals

Linlin Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the characteristics of supercritical CO2 adsorption/desorption on coals with different tectonic deformations and their effects on pore structure and fractal characteristics. The results show that CO2 adsorption and desorption isotherms exhibit multiple extremes and negative adsorption. The specific surface area of transition pores affects the adsorption peak values at low pressure, while the development of ultra-micropores controls the adsorption capacity at high pressure. Moreover, the desorption deviation is influenced by the fractal characteristics of pores.

Utilization of resources in abandoned coal mines for carbon neutrality

Xin Lyu et al.

Summary: Under the new goal of carbon neutrality, the coal industry in China is facing new challenges. By combining emission reduction and neutralization, innovations can be made to overcome the obstacles in achieving carbon neutrality in abandoned mines, thus helping to reach the national carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.

Quantitative analysis of difference in CH4 and CO2 adsorption capacity in coal based on adsorption model

Xiaoxi Cheng et al.

Summary: This study compared the adsorption mechanisms of CH4 and CO2 in coal and validated the reliability of the adsorption model through experiments. The results showed that microporous filling is the main adsorption behavior, and there are differences in adsorption capacity between CH4 and CO2.

Effect of adsorption phase and matrix deformation on methane adsorption isotherm of Fuling shale

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the methane adsorption characteristics of the Fuling shale at high pressures, identified factors influencing the shape of isotherms, and developed more accurate models. The excess adsorption isotherms obtained by the volumetric and gravimetric methods showed similarity at low pressure but differences at high pressure. The volumetric method had a smaller impact on adsorption amounts compared to the gravimetric method, while being more sensitive to matrix compression, especially under high pressure.
