Probing the Role of Local Structure in Driving the Stability of Halide Perovskites CH3NH3PbX3

Pronoy Nandi et al.

Summary: Utilizing temperature-dependent X-ray diffraction and extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements, it is found that MAPbBr(3) displays relatively reduced linear coefficient of thermal expansion, elevated Einstein temperature, and reduced dynamic disorder compared to MAPbI(3), suggesting that a relatively rigid Pb-Br bond inhibits the migration of MA ions and leads to improved stability.

Poling effect on the electrostrictive and piezoelectric response in CH3NH3PbI3 single crystals

Weiwei Li et al.

Summary: The study found that methylammonium lead triiodide perovskites exhibit a stronger electrostrictive effect at higher frequencies, possibly related to additional defects induced by applied bias voltage. After ac and dc poling, the piezoelectric response also showed a significant increase, possibly due to lattice distortion induced by the applied electric field.

First-principles calculations of defects in metal halide perovskites: A performance comparison of density functionals

Haibo Xue et al.

Summary: In this study, a comprehensive comparison of various functionals for calculating equilibrium defect formation energies in metal halide perovskites was conducted, emphasizing the importance of including long-range van der Waals interactions in the functional and self-consistently optimizing the structures and volumes of compounds involved in defect formation. Contrary to traditional models, the dominant defects in MAPbI(3) were found to be MA and I interstitials, as well as Pb vacancies.
