Floc formation and growth mechanism during magnesium hydroxide and polyacrylamide coagulation process for reactive orange removal

Jianhai Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the flocculation floc formation and growth processes using magnesium hydroxide and polyacrylamide (PAM) dual-coagulant through controlled experiments. The results showed that the addition of PAM and the generation of magnesium hydroxide affected the formation and growth of flocs, improving the coagulation performance.

Efficient removal of microplastics from wastewater by an electrocoagulation process

Maocai Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal performance, mechanism, and influencing factors of microplastics in wastewater treatment by electrocoagulation (EC). It was found that aluminum anode EC is an effective method to remove microplastics with a removal rate above 80%. The efficiency of microplastic removal by EC is influenced by electrolyte concentration and applied voltage density, with flocculation and charge neutralization occurring simultaneously during the process.

Coagulation removal of microplastics from wastewater by magnetic magnesium hydroxide and PAM

Yutao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a magnetic magnesium hydroxide coagulant was prepared to effectively remove polyethylene microplastics from wastewater. The highest removal efficiency of microplastics reached 87.1% when the ratio of Mg2+ to OH- was 1:1.

Investigation of microplastic removal from greywater by coagulation and dissolved air flotation

Atefeh Esfandiari et al.

Summary: Microplastics have raised concerns for their eco-toxicological effects on aquatic environments. While wastewater treatment plants remove a large number of microplastics, final effluents are still considered the main source of contamination. Advanced wastewater treatment technologies such as using aluminum and iron-based coagulants in dissolved air flotation cells have been shown to effectively remove polyethylene microplastics from greywater.
