Egg white protein-hypophosphorous acid-based fire retardant single bilayer coating assembly for cotton fabrics

Ajay Vishwakarma et al.

Summary: A novel flame retardant coating for cotton fabrics was developed using a combination of egg white proteins and hypophosphorous acid, resulting in a phosphorous-nitrogen-based assembly with self-extinguishing properties. The coated fabrics showed improved fire resistance and reduced heat release rates compared to uncoated fabrics. Wash durability of the coated fabrics was slightly affected by coating loss during soaking, but without after-glow.

Synthesis of a novel highly efficient flame-retardant coating for cotton fabrics with low combustion toxicity and antibacterial properties

Ghada Makhlouf et al.

Summary: The novel flame retardant MTP, when mixed with PVA and coated onto cotton fabrics, prevented flame propagation during flammability tests. Samples treated with PVA/MTP exhibited higher LOI values and lower smoke density, and reduced emissions of gases in the gas phase; showing significant antibacterial properties against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
