Rebecca Araujo Barros do Nascimento et al.

Summary: The study investigated the potential of three natural iron ores from Brazil as oxygen carriers for chemical looping combustion, revealing good resistance to fracture and enhanced reactivity. The most promising oxygen carrier, ItaHP-MG, with a high Fe2O3 content (96.5%), showed a regeneration of only 60%.

The ignition and combustion of mixtures of a gaseous hydrocarbon fuel in air when fluidising a bed of sand

Allan N. N. Hayhurst

Summary: Previous work has identified the criteria for the ignition of a hydrocarbon gas and air mixture in fluidized beds. Combustion in the particulate phase is prevented by the recombination of free radicals on the surfaces of fluidized particles, even at high temperatures. Combustion in the bubble phase is delayed by a series of chain reactions and the toroidal gas motion inside the bubble, which inhibits ignition by enhancing heat and radical transport.

Effect of Natural Ilmenite on the Solid Biomass Conversion of Inhomogeneous Fuels in Small-Scale Bubbling Fluidized Beds

Tanja Schneider et al.

Summary: This research investigates the influence of the oxygen carrier ilmenite on solid biomass conversion in fluidized bed combustion. The experiments show that ilmenite enhances the in-bed CO2 yield during methane combustion. Solid-solid reactions with ilmenite are negligible, while heterogeneous gas-solid reactions decrease the O-2 partial pressure and limit the char conversion rate. The oxygen buffering effect of ilmenite is mitigated due to high local oxygen demand and limited pellet distribution. Continuous operation in a BFB confirms higher in-bed fuel conversion, lower CO emissions, and less fluctuation in the flue gas during inhomogeneous fuel supply.

Heterogeneous reaction kinetics of a perovskite oxygen carrier for chemical looping combustion coupled with oxygen uncoupling

Lei Liu et al.

Summary: The MFB-TGA method is effective in measuring fast heterogeneous kinetics of oxygen carriers, overcoming limitations observed in TGA. The study investigated oxygen uncoupling and redox reaction kinetics of CaMn0.5Ti0.375Fe0.125O3-delta, revealing oxidation reactions are chemically controlled, while reduction reactions have both fast and slow stages. Analyzing the MFB-TGA data provided kinetic parameters for both oxygen uncoupling and redox reactions.
