Tissue expression of IL-17A and FOXP3 in acne vulgaris patients

Azza Gaber Antar Farag et al.

Summary: The study examined the immunohistochemical expression of IL-17A and FOXP3 in acne vulgaris lesions compared to normal skin. Results showed a significant increase in IL-17A expression in epidermis, lymphocytes in papillary dermis, and perifollicular lymphocytic inflammatory infiltrate in acne patients, as well as an elevation in FOXP3 expression in epidermis and lymphocytes in papillary dermis. The correlation between IL-17A and FOXP3 expressions in acne vulgaris patients was not significant, suggesting independent roles in AV development.

Antibiotic resistance in acne: changes, consequences and concerns

A. S. Karadag et al.

Summary: Antibiotic resistance in acne has been a major concern in dermatology since the 1970s, with significant variations in resistance rates and types of antimicrobials globally. While resistance to certain antibiotics remains a problem worldwide, resistance to others has remained low in the past decade.

Differentiation and functional plasticity of gamma-delta (γδ) T cells under homeostatic and disease conditions

Shilpi Giri et al.

Summary: Gamma-delta (γδ) T cells are a heterogeneous population of immune cells that make up <5% of total T cells in mice lymphoid tissue and human peripheral blood. They play important roles in immune functions, tissue repair, and maintaining homeostasis, especially in epithelial and mucosal barriers. These tissue-resident γδ T cells possess properties of both innate and adaptive immune cells, enabling them to participate in various functions during homeostasis and diseases, including transplant rejection and survival. Their functions can be modulated through interactions with other immune cells.

Porphyrins produced by acneic Cutibacterium acnes strains activate the inflammasome by inducing K+ leakage

Karl-Jan Spittaels et al.

Summary: Acne-associated Cutibacterium acnes strains and their porphyrins can activate NRLP3 inflammasome assembly, leading to K+ leakage, inflammasome activation, and IL-1 beta release. Acneic strains produce more porphyrins, which interact with keratinocyte cell membrane, explaining why some C. acnes strains dominate on healthy skin while others dominate on acneic skin.
