Peliosis hepatis is a vasculoproliferative disorder characterized by cystic, blood-filled spaces in the liver. In human beings, noninfectious peliosis hepatis has been reported in association with anabolic androgenic or estrogenic steroid usage; infectious peliosis hepatis has been caused by Bartonella henselae or B quintana. As in people, infection with B henselae may be associated with peliosis hepatis in dogs.
