The rolling of ribbed-strips is analysed in the paper using the slightly compressible rigid-viscoplastic finite element method. The energy functional and the rigid-plastic finite element equations for the ribbed-strip rolling process are derived. The simulation results are compared with those obtained by experiments and found to be in good agreement with the latter. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
