Long-period fibre gratings written by CO2 exposure of H2-loaded, standard fibres

High quality long-period gratings have been written in standard fibres pre-H-2-loading. using CO2 laser exposure at low intensity. The formation or OH bonds in the fibre cure probably explains the index change when such a moderate intensity exposure is applied.
