Pure alumina ceramics was prepared by hot pressing to investigate the process of grain growth. The relationship between densification and grain growth was shown and the grain-growth rate constants at different applied pressures were determined by the grain-growth law employed and the experimental results obtained. It was concluded that the grain-growth rate constant decreased with increasing applied pressure, but the difference of the constant under different pressures was slight when the applied pressures were high enough for obtaining high density.
