A simple model is presented with regard to the temperature dependence of the compressive strength of polymer fibers. This model leads to the result that the change in the compressive strength with temperature is equal to the product of the axial Young's modulus and the axial thermal expansion coefficient. The validity of the model is demonstrated for Kevlar fibers using experimental results from the literature. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
