The stresses and strains of the bending of a large scale pipe using local induction heating are investigated under loading and unloading. An elasto-plastic model for the calculation of the spring-back angle is presented. Elasto-plastic solutions for the spring-back angle of the pipe bending are obtained. Computer simulations are conducted by FEM software that was developed based on ANSYS. Experiments are carried out with pipe materials of 20, 10CrMo910 and 12Cr1MoV steel. The elasto-plastic results are in good agreement with the computer simulation results and the experimental results. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
