In the particulate two-phase boundary layer flow with disturbance exerting in the entrance of boundary layer, the discrete vortex model and one-way coupling method are employed to compute particle velocities and trajectories, and wall erosion caused by particle impacts. In order to verify the computational results, a corresponding experiment is made. Both numerical and experimental results show that disturbance in the entrance of boundary layer can reduce erosion caused by particle impacts in the particulate two-phase flow. The introduced disturbance with higher intensity confined in some range can lead to smaller quantity of erasion of wall. This is an entirely new method in erosion reduction of wall. It is also drawn that exerting disturbance in the entrance of boundary layer is more effective for reducing erosion than adding ribs on the wall. The results given in this paper are helpful for practical application. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
