A PVC membrane lead(II) ion-selective electrode has been constructed using 1,10-dibenzyl-1,10-diaza-18-crown-6 (DBzDA 18C6) as membrane carrier. The sensor shows a Nernstian response for Pb(II) ions over a wide concentration range (5.0x10(-5) to 1.0x10(-2) M). It has a fast response time and can be used for more than 10 months without any considerable divergence in potentials. The proposed sensor exhibits comparatively good selectivities with respect to alkali, alkaline earth and some transition and heavy metal ions. It was employed as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of EDTA with lead ions and used for direct determination of lead in waste water. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
