The oxidation of D-glucose with hydrogen peroxide as oxidant over several titanium-containing zeolites and titania as catalysts was studied. TS-1 and Ti-MCM-41 were synthesized directly while titanium-containing zeolites Y, L and mordenite were obtained through post-synthesis treatment using ammonium hexafluorotitanate. The oxidation of D-glucose occured mainly to gluconic acid, glucuronic acid, tartaric acid, glycolic acid and glyceric acid. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
