In this paper, we report the preparation of an inorganic-organic nanocomposite, obtained by the in situ oxidative polymerization of pyrrole inside the layers of alpha-Sn(HPO4)(2) . H2O (alpha-SnP). The polymerization was carried out by Cu2+ ions, previously incorporated in the alpha-SnP structure, by an ion-exchange process. The Cu2+ exchanged materials and the nanocomposites obtained after pyrrole polymerization were characterized by XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis, Raman and EPR spectroscopy. The characterization results suggest the formation of polymer chains between the alpha-SnP layers. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
