Acute gastrointestinal bleeding remains a common and significant medical problem for the new millennium. While significant progress has been made in the evaluation and treatment of patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding there has been little change in the morbidity and mortality associated with this condition. Immediate medical resuscitation followed by a careful diagnostic evaluation as outlined in this chapter can result in the successful management of almost all patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding.
