Women of color have darker skin tones. Basic science and clinical research data suggest that there are special cosmetic issues and concerns for this group of women. Paramount issues include dyschromia, skin sensitivity, oily or combination skin, texturally rough skin, and hair breakage from grooming practices, particularly in individuals of African ancestry This article also reviews therapeutic approaches for skin and hair cosmetic concerns in women of color.
