The status of the AMS facility at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) and the recent development for the carbon analysis are described. Blank levels of C-14 through sample preparation, overall accuracy and precision of C-14 measurement including pretreatment procedures were evaluated using reference materials. A small amount of CO2 (equivalent to 0.1-1 mug of C) injecting to the gas ion source was successfully detected. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
