An almost fully automated device has been developed which is suitable for the continuous monitoring of setting and hardening of cement paste and fresh mortar. Some special features are presented and discussed with respect to the reliable contact of ultrasound transmitter and recorder. The analysis of the US signals employs a modified Hinkley criterion.
