FT-RAIRS with CO as a probe molecule has ben used to examine the morphology of a nominally Cu(lll) overlayer on TiO2(110)1 x 1. Exposure of the overlayer to CO at 100 K produces two principal infrared absorption bands at 2071 and 2094 cm(-1), corresponding to CO adsorption on Cu(111)-like and Cu(110)-like sites, respectively. Calculations using the coherent potential approximation indicate a significant intensity borrowing by the high-frequency band. The best fit to the data corresponds to a GO-occupied Cu(110)-like concentration of 0.055 ML. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
