A dispersive near-infrared Raman spectrometer was constructed using a photomultiplier with a new InP/InGaAsP photocathode which is well suited for 1064 nm excitation. Totally fluorescence-free Raman spectra of normal and cancerous human lung tissues were obtained. The future possibility of Raman spectroscopic cancer diagnosis is discussed.
