The electromechanical performance characteristics of 0.7Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3-0.3PbTiO(3) ceramics and [001]-oriented crystals have been investigated under uniaxial stress (sigma). The results demonstrate that [001]-oriented crystals have an electromechanical coupling coefficient of similar to0.9 for sigma less than 4 x 10(7) N/m(2). The results also demonstrate that the acoustical energy density of ceramics and [001]-oriented crystals are not significantly different at field levels below 15 kV/cm.
