Macrobrachium shaoi sp. nov. is described from Taipei County in northern Taiwan. The new species is similar to M, grandimanus (Randall, 1840), M. joppae Holthuis, 1950, and M. therezieni Holthuis, 1965, but can easily be distinguished by various characters of the male second pereiopod.
