Core-shell magnetic latex particles bearing poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) in the shell were prepared by encapsulation of magnetic core using a precipitation polymerization process. The cationic character of the particles' surface is favorable for nucleic acid adsorption-desorption by controlling the pH and salinity of the medium. The concentration process of nucleic acids was presented and proven using DNA as a model. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
