Flavonoid and icariin contents of 87 samples drawn from 21 accessions of seven species native to Guizhou, China, of the genus Epimedium were determined by means of ultraviolet and high-performance liquid chromatography. The contents differed significantly among the species and accessions. E. acuminatum, E. yinjiangense, E myrianthum, E wushanense. and E simplicifloum had greater amounts of flavonoids and icariin than E. letorrhizum and E. luodianense. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd.
