We present numerical results on the propagation of femtosecond pulses in air including multiphoton ionization. group-velocity dispersion, space-time focusing, self-steepening, Raman response. and higher-order chi ((5)) defocusing. It is shown that the self-steepening terms cause strong blue shifting of the spectrum generating a white-light continuum. Our results are in good qualitative agreement with experimental observations.
