Stochastic Schrodinger equations provide a powerful tool to study the dynamics of open quantum systems. For Non-Markovian evolution, a stochastic approach may be derived from a suitable representation of the joint dynamics of 'system' and 'environment'. We apply our general framework to Brownian motion and specify the stochastic Schrodinger equation first in the weak coupling, then in the high temperature limit. We illustrate our approach with the Brownian dynamics of a parametric oscillator, whose stochastic Schrodinger equation follows rigorously from the general theory. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
