Microbiological sampling of nurses' uniforms was undertaken using a Casella slit sampler. Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium difficile and vancomycin-resistant enterococci were detected on uniforms both before and after a span of duty. Recommendations for provision and changing of nurses' uniforms are made. (C) 2001 The Hospital Infection Society.
