This article discusses prevalence rates, risk factors, and health consequences of childhood obesity among African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Asian Americans, and describes interventions tailored to these groups. These ethnic groups are not mutually exclusive. In particular, persons of Hispanic origin may be of any race. For most of the purposes of this article, referrals to African, Americans and whites exclude Hispanics. The following article does not specifically include Pacific Islanders, for whom there is a dearth of information.
