An investigation of the wave propagation characteristics of pipes with fluid loading on both the inside and outside of the pipe is described. The effects of the inner and outer media have been investigated by considering a copper pipe with air or water on both the inside and outside of the pipe. The effect of viscosity has also been demonstrated for a castor oil-filled copper pipe in air. The dispersion characteristics have been computed assuming a real frequency and complex wavenumber and have been compared with experiments. Good agreement has been obtained between the experiments and predictions for all combinations of fluid on the inside and outside of the pipe. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
