Pulse-reverse electrodeposition has been used to co-deposit gamma-Al2O3 nanometric size particles, less than or equal to30 nm in diameter, into a copper matrix, from electrolytes where the particle diameters exceed 150 nm. The selectivity effect inherent to the pulse-reverse method is independent of the electrolyte convection and, additionally, results in a higher particle deposit concentration compared to direct current deposition. The technique provides a means to develop bulk nanocomposites with particle size distribution control.
