Synthesis of new α- and β-gem-difluoromethylene C-glycosides in the galactose and glucose series

A synthesis of gem-difluoromethylene C-glycopyranosides was efficiently achieved via a Reformatsky reaction on an aldehyde and subsequent intramolecular cyclization involving either the opening of an epoxide or an oxymercuration. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
