We report the growth by hydrothermal synthesis of US and ZnS clusters in MOR-type zeolite matrices using CdCl2 and ZnCl2 and hydrogen sulphide flow as starting sources. When the Cd and Zn concentration increases, we observe the deformation of the matrix using XRD and Raman spectroscopy. The semiconductor nanoparticles embedded in MOR matrices are responsible for the observed electronic and optical properties of the nanocomposite. The absorption and excitation spectra show that the optical band gap varies in the range 2.6-3.98 eV, depending on the semiconductor material and their relative concentration, (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
