The paper presents a new mathematical programming model for optimizing process parameters and subdivisions of depth of cut in multipass turning operations. The model is a direct non-linear mathematical model that solves the optimization problem of multipass turning operations providing all decision variables (cutting speed, federate, depth cut, subdivision of depth of cut, number of passes) for both finishing and rough cutting in a single run. It relaxes restrictive assumptions related to depth of cut and other process parameters. In addition, the developed model eliminates the complexities encountered in existing methods. Illustrative examples from the literature are presented to test and compare the developed model against existing methods.
