During the past year, significant advances have been made in our understanding of stomatal development and its response to climate change, and in our knowledge of how guard cell Ca2+ oscillations encode environmental signals. Recent studies on (de)phosphorylation mechanisms have provided new information on how guard cells respond to abscisic acid and blue light.
