A convenient solvothermal synthesis of SnS nanoparticles from activated tin metal and elemental sulfur is reported. Through the use of diethyleneglycoldimethylether (diglyme) as a solvent, unprotected particles of Herzenbergite 20-40 nm in size were obtained at a reaction temperature of 160 degreesC. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), EDX analysis, and TEM studies showed that beta -SnS is the only product.
