The nucleation, growth and coalescence of voids are characteristic of ductile fracture of metallic materials. In order to quantitatively describe the damage of wrought aluminium alloys, the Archimedes' principle is used to determine the volumetric damage parameter. Additionally, the true stress-strain diagram of the examined aluminium alloy AlMgSi0.5 is determined. The provided curves of damage development and true stress-strain are used as input for finite element calculations of the stress-strain behaviour. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
