Catalytic Beckmann rearrangement of cyclohexanone oxime in ionic liquids using PO, or Eaton's reagent has been investigated. 1-n-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (bmiPF(6)) gives superior results to those noted by earlier workers. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
