Based on the propagation equation of Bessel-modulated Gaussian beams with quadratic radial dependence (QBG beams) and irradiance moments definition, an analytical expression for the propagation of the kurtosis parameter of QBG beams passing through paraxial ABCD optical systems is derived and illustrated with numerical examples. It is C, shown that the K parameter of QBG beams depends on the beam order, p parameter, Rayleigh length and the ratio A/B 4 of transfer matrix elements. As a special case, the K parameter of the fundamental Gaussian beam is equal to 2 in the polar coordinate system. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
