The problem of decreasing of organic solvent contents in high gloss decorative paints may be solved in many ways. One of them is the production of high solids alkyd paints. The simplest way of synthesising high solids alkyd resins is decreasing of their molecular weight by increasing of fatty acids contents or increasing the ratio of OH/COOH groups. But, alkyd resins obtained in this way have insufficient properties. They dry very slowly and give coatings of weak performance. A good solution of this problem lies in synthesising alkyd resins of defined high branching structure. Coatings made from these resins dry quickly and their properties are sufficient for decorative purpose. In our papers, we describe two kinds of high-branched alkyd resins: star structure resins and hyperbranched structure resins. We present here the properties of the resins and coatings.
