The properties of ionic elastomers formed in the crosslinking with zinc peroxide are studied in compounds with varying proportions of carboxylic groups in the elastomeric matrix. At the temperature used, 150degreesC, preferentially ionic bonds were formed. The crosslinking densities and, correspondingly, the physical properties, increased with the acid group content and with the reaction time. (C) 2002 John Wiley Sons, Inc.
