The components of the essential oil from the leaves of Eruca sativa were analysed by capillary GC and GC-MS. The essential oil from the leaves of Eruca sativa was found to contain 67 volatile components. representing 96.52% of the oil, which were characterized. The main constituents were 4-methylthiobutylisothiocyanate (60.13%) and 5-methylthiopentanonitrile (11.25%). The essential oil from the leaves of E. sativa was characterized by a high content of sulfur- and nitrogen-containing compounds. Copyright (C) 2002 John Wiley Sons, Ltd.
