A novel and simple one-step, solid-state reaction in the presence of a nonionic surfactant, PEG 400, has been developed to synthesize CuO nanowhiskers with diameters of approximately 2-10 nm and lengths of more than 100 nm. The CuO nanowhiskers were characterized by XRD, TEM, HRTEM and XPS. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
