The Tec family of protein tyrosine kinases play an important role in signaling through antigen-receptors such as the TCR, BCR and Fee receptor. Recent studies have generated new insights into the domains in Tec kinases that take part in intramolecular and intermolecular binding. Furthermore, the consequences of these domain interactions for Tec activation and downregulation have been better defined. Genetic studies of kinase-knockout mice have emphasized the importance of Tee kinases in lymphocyte development, differentiation and apoptosis.
