This paper focuses on the success factors of cooperative ventures in innovation and production systems. The objectives can be summarized as: determination of different success factors and classification of the success factors in a management model of cooperative ventures. After a short theoretical introduction on the subject of managing cooperations a model of the cooperation process is discussed. Then the strategic and operational success factors found in literature are summarized in three groups structure, culture and risk - and linked to the phases of the cooperation process. A short case study describes an example out of our own research. Finally the strengths and weaknesses of such an integrated concept are shown. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
